Unfortunately, there is no known non-surgical treatment for overly large breasts (macromastia). Weight reduction has been shown to have little relation to the symptoms of rashes in the fold under the breasts and with back and neck pain in patients with true macromastia.
Breasts that are so large as to be disabling are not a rarity in relatively young teenagers. This condition is known in the medical literature virginal hypertrophy. The only known treatment for this condition is breast reduction.
Recurrence of macromastia is very rare after breast reduction in patients over the age of 18. In young teenagers however, the breasts can, and sometimes do continue to grow after surgery. While it would seem logical to wait until completion of growth is assured, many of these young women suffer so badly both psychologically and physically that early breast reduction is the best choice. This decision must be made after a very detailed consultation with both the patient and her parent or guardian.
I have performed over a thousand breast reductions over the past twelve years. I have found that these patients are uniformly happy with their decision IF they understand beforehand that this surgery is a trade-off. On the good side, the reduction in size and weight makes the patient look thinner and feel better. On the negative side, these benefits are traded for permanent scars of the skin. In most cases, a LeJeur type or "lollipop" reduction can be done and the scars limited to around the areola and down. While the scars across the chest under the breast can usually be avoided, the scars that are made, are there forever.
Furthermore, while breast feeding after breast implants is usually possible, it is usually not possible after breast reduction.
These and other issues must be discussed in depth before the decision should be reached to go-ahead with surgery.
I hope that this is helpful .If you would like to discuss your case in particular, please feel free to call and arrange for a personal consultation.
Have a nice day.
