Botox - Recovering from Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Injection

While Botox injections are certainly not pleasant most patients do not find them terribly painful either.  The medication is placed into the wrinkled area with a tiny needle.  There is a small bump immediately afterwards because the medication takes up space.  This is usually goes away over an hour or so and the little bumps disappear.  In most cases, patients can go back to work and within an hour there is no trace of the injections.

Occasionally, a small amount of bruising can occur.  This is variable from patient to patient and even between sessions in the same patient.  If this happens it is immediately able to be covered with makeup and goes away within about a week.

It is recommended that patients did not participate in strenuous activities or lower their head beneath their waist for three to four hours after their injections.

Flattening of the wrinkles usually takes five to seven days to completely occur.  In my practice I offered to give patients touch up injections after one week if there are areas that have not completely taken.
