Breast lifts
In some women, the skin is not resilient
enough to support the weight of the breast.
These people can develop fallen, unsightly
breasts. In this condition, medically called
Ptosis (pronounced "Tosis"), there is an excess
of skin as compared to breast tissue. To make
the breast higher and firmer, the extra skin
must be removed. There are three popular ways to
achieve this.
-
Wise Pattern - Operation
in the shape of an anchor,
around the areola, down and
across the chest below the
breast.
-
LeJeour - Operation
around the areola and down.
- Donut or Peri-Areolar -
Operation only around the
areola.
This procedure involves some degree of
permanent visible scar, so it is clear that the
method chosen should employ the smallest
possible procedure to accomplish the result. In
most cases, the Lejeour or lollipop incision is
all that is needed. In a few cases, only a scar
around the areola can suffice. This is called a
Benelli or doughnut incision.
Several products are available that may aid in reduction of scarring. I believe that the best product is Scarguard as it contains silicone, cortisone and vitamin E, all shown to help reduce scars. It is available in many doctors' offices and most pharmacies.
