Why is LeJeour Breast Reduction Better In Most Cases? There is controversy as to the best choice in breast reduction among Plastic Surgeons and patients. The biggest problem with traditional reductions is the extensive scarring from skin incisions which go around the areola, down and across the bottom, under the breast. Very few patients need their nipples actually removed and put back on as grafts. This procedure is now done by experienced Plastic Surgeons only when the nipples are down around the patient's waist when standing. The Lejeour Breast Reduction, named after its inventor, Madam Madeline Lejeour, a Belgian Plastic Surgeon, eliminates the most objectionable scar, the one that crosses the chest beneath the breast. In this procedure the breasts appear a little flatter at first, but, in my experience, the loss of the extra scar is not a negative in the long run. The shape actually is more natural once the breast settles and the final result appears. This usually takes about 3 months. This type of breast reduction is done on an outpatient basis and takes about an hour. Recovery is only 5-7 days for most activity and pain is minimal as this is skin and fat surgery. Return to full activity as in upper body heavy lifting or sports takes about 3 weeks. |
