Instant gratification rarely leads to the best result in anything we do.
Breast implants are no exception to this rule.
I believe that implants over the muscle have only skin coverage, and therefore are more likely to
appear artificially round. They usually plainly show the edges of the implant. Initially, here is no room under a pectoralis muscle for a breast implant. Implants that are
under the muscle will ride temporarily higher than a normal breast, but will
settle and appear more natural with time. Therefore, implants under the muscle tend to look better in my experience. They are hidden by more natural tissue.
Some surgoens will do "partials". These are placed under the muscle and the lower part of the muscle is cut to allow faster dropping. I do NOT think this is the best plan. Total muscle covergae, in my opinion, leads to better coverage and a more natural result. I also know that implants with muscle coverage lead to better mammogram visibility.
Existing implants that look artificial can often be improved by revising
the position of the implant to submuscular. I believe that the more you cover the implant
with natural tissue (muscle), the more it will look and feel natural.
