Why can rippling of the skin occur after liposuction?

When a balloon is full it's surface is smooth. When it is empty, the surface is rippled. The skin can behave the same way. We can now remove such large volumes of fat that the skin may not contract as much as we would like. Rippling can occur and it is NOT predictable.

The good news is, that most patients feel that with even the few ripples that they might get, they look much better than if they had the fat back!

Note the rippling of the upper inner thighs.
4.5 liters were removed and this patient is
much happier with the way she looks despite
the fact that the skin did not completely contract!
