No matter where he your incisions are made, there is going to be some mark in the skin. While most patients heal very well, some will form more visible scars than others and be aware that even your past scarring history is not always a good predictor of how you will heal! I have seen several patients with some of the same line healing almost to an invisible scar, and the other half healing poorly! I counsel my patients that they are most likely trading back pain, neck pain, rashes beneath the breasts and looking thinner, for somewhat unpredictable scarring.
A reduced scar technique such as the LeJeour can offer significant advantages for the right patients. In this technique, the incision goes around the areola and down. There is no large incision beneath the breast.
There are several things that can be done to try and reduce your scar formation. These include; silicone sheeting, cortisone, pressure, and possibly vitamin E.
Several products are available that may aid in reduction of scarring. Some of these are Cica Care silicone gel sheeting, Kelocote silicone cream, and my preference which is ScarGuard (WWW.ScarGuard.com) . ScarGuard combines several of these modalities and is easier to use.
Whichever one you choose, I believe that scarring is, in fact, improved by using these types of products. |
